A week ago, we informed you that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment would be releasing the sci-fi film “Planet of the Apes: New Kingdom” (USA, Australia 2024; original title: “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”), starring Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Maco, and William H. Macy, for home entertainment. Initial information came from the USA and the UK. This fourth installment in the reboot series, following “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (USA 2011), “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (USA 2014), and “War for the Planet of the Apes” (USA 2017), will also be available in German stores. According to new details, the film directed by Wes Ball will be released on September 13, 2024, distributed by Leonine, on Blu-ray in a standard Keep Case and in 4K resolution on Ultra HD Blu-ray as a limited Steelbook edition. Information from abroad suggests that the 4K UHD will feature the original English audio in Dolby Atmos. The bonus material is said to include a making-of and 14 deleted and extended scenes. Final details for the German market are still pending. It’s also unclear whether the 4K Steelbook will include the “Inside the Lens: The Raw Cut” version.
Many decades have passed since Caesar (Andy Serkis) launched his final assault against the hostile humans, establishing apes at the top of the food chain. To obtain this treasure, Proximus enslaves other ape tribes, including the peaceful apes of the Eagle Clan. When young Cornelius witnesses his village being destroyed by the kingdom’s mercenaries, he vows to seek revenge and free his people. He relies not only on the help of the orangutan Raka (Peter Macon) but also on the human girl Mae (Freya Allan). However, while Cornelius dreams of a peaceful life, Mae has her own plans, which could not only destroy Proximus’ kingdom but also make humans the dominant species on the planet once again…
