Everyone is patiently waiting for Tom Holland’s Spiderman Far From Home which is due this upcoming week. However, amidst the wait, there is news that went under everyone’s radar which should excite everyone as much as Spiderman.
And that announcement is that Sony’s Venom 2 has been confirmed and Tom Hardy who played the titular character is set to reprise his role as the Anti Villian Symbiote.
In an interview to Fandango producer, Amy Pascal said, “I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can.” She added, “When you think of Venom, you’ll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters. And once you saw Tom Hardy do this character, that’s all you needed to know.”
Now if look 2018 Venom it wasn’t well received by critics however it made a whopping $855 million worldwide. And this is enough for the studio to greenlight the sequel. And it wasn’t just the commercial success of Venom. It has been rumored that Sony has been working off their own separate cinematic universe which is set in the same MCU but will play out separately in its own right.
It won’t far be fetched to think Sony would try to do this as they have tried this before with its Amazing Spiderman Movie series. As of right now, we do not have much information about the upcoming Venom 2, however, we do know that Woody Harrelson would be playing Carnage and will be the primary antagonist of the movie as hinted in the post-credit scene of Venom.
As for how will Sony introduces Tom Hardy’s Venom in the Spiderman and MCU, the answer could be a multiverse. First hinted by Mysterio himself in Spiderman Far From Home trailer it could be a way to introduce Eddie Brock, Symbiote and Carnage into the Spiderverse and MCU.
