Amit Gupta Takes Apple Vision Pro for a Spin During 5-Hour Flight, Shares Insightful Observations

-

Amit Gupta, the creator of Sudowrite, recently took a bold step by testing Apple’s latest innovation, the Vision Pro, during a five-hour flight. Initially hesitant but curious, Gupta documented his experience with the high-end device on a Southwest airplane and shared eight key takeaways.

In a tweet, Gupta expressed his uncertainty about strapping the Apple Vision Pro to his face but ultimately decided to give it a try during the extended flight. To his surprise, the experience turned out to be quite positive.

Gupta found that he could use the Vision Pro seamlessly with his Apple MacBook, even with the laptop’s display almost closed. This setup provided more space on the tray table and contributed to a less crowded feel. One notable advantage he highlighted was the privacy the device offered, as the mirrored display acted as a private screen, preventing others from peeking over his shoulder.

Furthermore, Gupta discovered that his old AirPods Pro worked seamlessly with the augmented reality (AR) headset. Both he and a fellow passenger were impressed by how well the AirPods Pro integrated with the Vision Pro.

Despite these positive aspects, Gupta observed a lag in the expansive mirrored display. He also shared additional insights from his overall experience, noting that the mirrored display appeared significantly larger in actual use compared to videos. Additionally, he mentioned that updating the Vision Pro to visionOS 1.0.2 resulted in a notable battery drain, with the battery level dropping to 50% after the update.

Gupta also encountered limitations related to Disney DRM, which blocked movies from being recorded on the screen. Regarding connectivity, he mentioned that while he paid for Wi-Fi for his MacBook, the Vision Pro couldn’t share it unless he paid for a second device. Despite this limitation, Gupta considered it a minor issue since he was mirroring the content.

During the flight, Gupta’s seatmate expressed admiration for the Apple Vision Pro, although no one else seemed to notice or comment on the device. Overall, Gupta’s experiment showcased both the advantages and limitations of Apple’s latest tech offering, providing valuable insights for potential users and tech enthusiasts alike.
