Daniel Radcliffe Breaks His Silence on the Harry Potter Reboot and His Possible Return to the Saga

-

Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter throughout the Warner Bros. film series, addresses his potential involvement in the HBO Max reboot and has some disappointing news.

Warner Bros. Discovery, as promised by David Zaslav, is beginning to develop new film and television projects related to the ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Harry Potter’ universes, two of the company’s successful franchises, to capitalize on their popularity and revive them after their main series concluded. Regarding Middle-earth, two films are already planned for theatrical release, and ‘The Rings of Power’ continues to grow independently on Amazon Prime Video, with its second season set for August. J.K. Rowling’s saga, on the other hand, is developing a reboot set to premiere on Max, featuring a new cast and a serialized format to delve deeper into the novels’ pages. Daniel Radcliffe, the star of the films, has now addressed his potential return to Hogwarts, and the news isn’t promising.

In an interview with ‘E! News,’ Radcliffe opens up about this new reboot and wishes Warner Bros. all the best for its success, but he firmly believes he should not return for any cameos or to play a new character, as it would overshadow the new generations looking to make their mark through this ambitious project: “I don’t think so. I think they very wisely want to go for a clean break. And I don’t know if it would work for us to do anything about it,” the actor states. “I understand they’re trying to start fresh, and I’m sure whoever is making it will want to leave their own mark on it and probably won’t want to figure out how to make old Harry cameo in it somehow,” he adds.

“So I’m definitely not seeking it in any way. But I wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world, and I’m very excited to see them pass that torch. But I don’t think it needs to be passed physically by me,” concludes the Hollywood star. The Harry Potter reboot is theoretically set to premiere on Max with its first season sometime in 2026. It is currently in development, and many details, including its creative team and cast, have yet to be announced.
