“Deadpool and Wolverine” Boost Spanish Box Office to Second Best Weekend of the Year with Nearly 8 Million Euros

-

The arrival of mutants in the MCU has turned into a significant event, driving the Spanish box office to a total gross of almost 8 million euros.

Superheroes are not just saving humanity; they’re also saving the Spanish box office. “Deadpool and Wolverine” has become a massive hit, filling theaters since its release directed by Shawn Levy on July 25. According to Comscore, during its first weekend from July 26 to 28, the 20 most-watched movies in Spain almost hit the eight million mark, specifically 7,959,565 euros. However, this did not surpass the best weekend of the year, which was the release of another Disney sequel, “Inside Out 2,” which grossed 7.99 million euros.

Unfiltered humor and wild violence ruled the box office, bringing in 4,576,611 euros, which is 42.5% of the entire weekend’s revenue. Ryan Reynolds’ red suit and Hugh Jackman’s claws dazzled on 1,005 screens, averaging 12,336 euros per cinema with a total of 588,354 viewers. Since the movie’s release on Thursday, its cumulative gross has reached 6,716,982 euros.

Santiago Segura couldn’t compete with the mutants’ leap into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His “Father There Is Only One 4: Wedding Bells” dropped to second place, though it still remained above the one-million mark. After becoming the best opening for the Sony Pictures-distributed franchise and the best opening for a Spanish film in nine years, it fell by 45% in its second weekend, grossing 1.145 million euros and attracting 167,453 viewers across 719 screens. The Garcia Loyola family’s wedding has been profitable, earning 6,639,869 euros to date.

The third and fourth places go to two animation giants. “Despicable Me 4” and “Inside Out 2” both dipped below the million-euro mark for the first time, grossing 771,194 and 719,643 euros in their fourth and sixth weeks, respectively. They convinced 110,115 and 98,881 more viewers, averaging over 2,000 euros per cinema. Illumination’s sequel has accumulated a total of 14.4 million euros, while Pixar’s sequel has set records with 40.3 million euros in our country.

“Twisters” settles into the fifth position in its second week, far behind the previous films. The Warner Bros. film starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones suffered a 56% drop compared to its opening weekend, adding 285,552 euros. The tornadoes have now grossed 1.66 million euros in Spain. The other major success in Spanish cinema occupies the sixth position: “House on Fire,” which climbs one spot as the only film in the top 20 to improve its revenue by 1%. Despite being in only 93 screens in its fifth week, Dani de la Orden’s film garnered an additional 115,461 euros, bringing its total revenue to over one million euros.
